Repairing holes in drywall is easy when the right patching materials are used. Larger holes take more time to set up when drywall needs to be cut out and replaced, but even pocket-sized holes can be frustrating to patch nicely and sand when you apply the incorrect product for the task.

I know from experience that, like paint, not all patching materials perform the aforementioned. Some products, typically spackle, compress as well much, sand terribly, or take as well long to fully dry out.
